Awesome Mistake Cake

So, I had every intention on putting a replica of my cousin's skull tattoo on top of the cake, but it broke because it was too fragile. So then I decided to free hand it on top if the cake, and it looked like a 4 yr old did it. So I got mad and then festered for a little, and then my mother said drizzle chocolate on top, and poof this is what happened. OK so, this the red velvet cake recipe with butter cream filling. The chocolate is is just semi sweet Chip-Its with about 1/2 cup of shortening for shine and setting purposes. Than I just drizzled chocolate on top of Maraschino cherries.

Star Cake

I made this cake for a family friend's daughter (14 yrs old). The topper is my butter cookie recipe, the cake is my mom's one bowl of chocolate cake recipe ( give me a shout if you would like it), and butter cream filling. I actually used chocolate fondant and dyed it black, because you use less black coloring.

Las Vegas Bridal Shower Cake

OK, so I cheated a little bit on this one! I used store bought fondant, but it was Duff's Fondant! So we all know that fondant is gross and tastes like a bag or two of icing sugar. But not this stuff, it is amazing!! It comes in white, black (i think), yellow and I want to say blue. It is expensive, it is $30 for 2 lbs or $28 for 3.5 lbs ( don't ask), but i use coupons for Micheal's when ever I can. I found that one container covered a 2 tiered cake, bottom at 8 inches and top at 6 inches, with very little left over. I rolled out the fondant 1/8 inch thick. The Vegas sign is a butter cookie, and it is all hand piped, the cake is a red velvet recipe, found here:http://www.recipegirl.com/2008/08/13/red-velvet-cupcakes/
And is by far the best one ever! HOWEVER, only used concentrated coloring, otherwise it will be spotted when you cut it. This is what I found out anyways. This cake was not red but purple, I just substituted purple for red. The filling was raspberry butter cream, very tasty!

Halloween Themed Cake

This was my very first cake! My best friend, Krista, is obsessed with Halloween. I use a recipe called Black Magic Cake, found here: http://www.mybakingaddiction.com/black-magic-cake/
The fondant is just your everyday marshmallow fondant ( which I didn't like, too soft and spongy), and I always use Wilton concentrated coloring ( this was red-no taste). The cookies were  a butter cookie recipe from my school book ( if you would like it give me a shout), and before I baked them I laid them on candy sticks ( found at your local craft shop) and gave them a slight push. I used Color Mist ( can't remember what the brand is but i bought it at Micheal's) obviously in black, and it was a good 6-8 coats to get a nice black, with drying in between. I dyed the sticks black with Wilton's black coloring. The middle was just a butter cream icing with orange marmalade for flavor and a little orange coloring. The decorations were from Micheal's.

Day 1

OK, so this is the first time ever that I am doing a blog! Lets see how it goes!

This blog will mostly be about my adventures on becoming a Master Baker, I will be show my work and sharing recipes, unless they are the few that are family secrets. I will try my best to keep this blog up to date!!
